The International Town Twinning Conference took place on 22 – 23 November in Istanbul. The Kusadasi Municipality sent a delegation. At the conference Kusadasi Municipality twinned with the towns of Thessaloniki, Arbach am Nectar and Dubrovnik.
The International Town Twinning Conference aims to enhance the communication between towns, to support each other and share experiences. Local governments, in Turkey as well as other towns in Europe, are thus offered the opportunity to learn from each other.
The International Town Twinning Conference makes it possible for towns to organize activities that have an added value. This way, towns commit to long term projects and partnerships.
At The International Town Twinning Conference Kusadasi Municipality Twinned Three Towns
At the International Town Twinning Conference, the Kusadasi Municipality twinned with the Greek town of Thessaloniki, the Croatian town of Dubrovnik, the German town Arbach am Nectar. The deputy Mayor of Kusadasi, Ayse Serifoglu and municipal councilor, Ferah Surekci, attended the conference as representatives of Kusadasi.
There were sessions at the Twinning Cafe to facilitate the twinning process. The representatives exchanged ideas and information about their towns.
The Importance of the International Town Twinning Conference
The International Town Twinning Conference is very important to Turkey. It is a starting point for the Turkey – European Union Twinning Grants Program. This program is organized by the European Union, as part of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance. The information about the grant program will soon be announced.
During the last few years, the Kusadasi Municipality, has worked on projects to promote Kusadasi to as many countries as possible as a heavenly tourism destination. It is expected that Kusadasi will apply for The Turkey – European Union Twinning Grants Program şadası’nın, for the programs ‘sustanainable tourism’ and ‘smart city’.
